I recently acquired camouflage suit for hunting and other applications. I have had them now for about 6 months and used them in hunting activities as well as general use during my regular assignments. The “Kaltio Camo jacket”: I have used this on two hunting trips so far, high elevations in mountainous areas of the United States above 10000 feet or 900 meters. I also used it during training contracts in Scandinavia as well as backpacking in April in Finland. Firstly, the fit is great, roomy for multiple layers underneath and spacious but snug enough to hang correctly and maintain a professional appearance. I really like the cut of the garment and the pocket lay out for hunting and general use. The camouflage pattern is extremely effective in the intended environment.
Unlike the military type Gore-tex of many years ago it doesn’t drag and make that loud stretching noise on plants and trees when moving and stalking animals. Next and most importantly the Gore-tex suit is covered externally with a soft layer of cloth. This soft cloth on the external finish of the garment allows for quiet / silent movement in the forest. The neck zips up all the way and seals correctly high around the throat preventing heat loss and or cold air from entering the suit. This in turn precludes the use of scarfs which I routinely use with my outer garments and shell layers. I really like the camouflage pattern; it doesn’t appear militaristic or similar to Government Issue clothing. The zipper is covered as well with an outside cloth flip which prevents heat loss through the zipper or outside cold air from entering. The sleeve cuffs are adjustable with the use of Velcro to your specific wrist size which is the only Velcro on the garment. The remainder of the pockets and closures are snaps and zippers. Which I much prefer over Velcro, due to noise and routine wear that breaks down the Velcro. The ripping sound is loud and out of place in the woods and or while hunting. The pockets have large over flaps to prevent loss of objects from them and secure closures. There are six pockets on the jacket and plenty of room for what’s required. The jacket also comes down over your lower back and gathers by the use of a durable elastic bungy type string with lock place holds on it to keep the cord in place. I didn’t purchase the hood for the jacket which is sold separately.
I highly recommend the hood when buying this garment. The “Wolf Camo trousers” are fantastic and I highly recommend them. Designed in similar fashion and matching the jacket. Well done and well-made overall. Make sure to purchase the suspenders instead of using a belt for comfort. I really like this suit for moderate pace walking in the woods on cold or wet days & nights. It is also very useful and comfortable when setting in place in a hide, blind or stationary spot stalking game. This is truly a great piece of equipment for any hunter wanting to stay comfortable and alert in the wilderness. This has become my newest favorite piece of gear for hunting and general application in the correct environment. The “Kaltio Camo jacket” & “Wolf Camo trousers” are truly exceptional gear and well worth the money. I highly recommend them for the serious hunter and professional who must spend extended time frames outdoors and in the wilderness.
